Dr. Courtney Blake

Owner, DVM

Dr. Courtney Blake is so excited to start working with you and your pets! She is passionate about being a veterinarian and understands the importance of the human animal bond. She graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and has been practicing veterinary medicine for the past 17 years in the Twin Cities.

Dr. Blake has seen all species ever since she started in practice. If they are important to you, they are important to her. Dr. Blake knows that it doesn’t matter if they are furry, scaly or feathered, all species can make great companions. When Dr. Blake was first starting in the field she thought she wanted to work in a zoo. While she loves unique species and the conservation work, she realized she missed the owners and working with them to provide the best possible life for their pets. It was the right decision to go into companion animal medicine and she has never looked back. She has been blessed to be able to provide care from the smallest little anole all the way up to lions and tigers (not pets!). She is excited to work with your dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and pocket pets. Dr. Blake also provides acupuncture services for your pets. If your pet is having mobility issues or other concerns, acupuncture is just one more tool she has in her arsenal to help your pets.

Dr. Blake moved here from the Chicago area for vet school and fell in love with Minnesota. She loves how accessible nature is here and all the seasons. She lives in Minnetonka with her husband, two daughters and their old lady dog, Lucy. In their down time they love to explore state and national parks and they hike or canoe as often as they can.

Alisa

Certified Veterinary Technician

I decided to become a vet tech around the age of 5 when I found out it was an actual job. I couldn’t believe there was a career that allowed you to learn about animals and how to care for them and also filled a desire to go into a science based field. Now I get to help people and their pets and I love it!

I graduated from the Minnesota School of Business 2007 with an associates of applied science in animal health. I became certified in 2008 and have been practicing for the last 14 years with both dogs and cats as well as exotics.

I currently have 4 cats that I took in as a sick litter of 3-day-old kittens. My intention was to bottle feed and foster them until I could find forever homes with them. Little did I know that their forever home would end up with me. Thunder, Mochi, Hawk, and Cow live the cushy life now and are learning to love their new human brothers. I love all species, though, and I have previously had a dog, lizard, rabbit, guinea pigs, chinchillas, fish, fiddler crabs, and rats.

I love getting to work with all kinds of animals and working with their human family to give them the healthiest and happiest life possible.

I have two boys under the age of 3 and a husband of 4 years, so we stay pretty busy! I love spending time with my family outside hiking, swimming, picnicking, or walking and playing at a local park. In my spare time, I also enjoy cooking, baking, antiquing, traveling, photography, and art.

Certified Veterinary Technician

I went to the Minnesota School of Business, graduated in 2007 with my CVT, and have been a tech for 15 years. I have lots of experience working with dogs and cats in a clinic setting, but minimal experience with exotics, although I have owned many different kinds of pocket pets and birds throughout my life. I am looking forward to getting more hands-on knowledge of different species working with Dr. Blake! My partner Andy and I currently have 3 dogs, Nicky, Buttercup, and Domino, and a tortoise named Pistachio. I like gardening, watching reality TV or binging shows on Netflix, and reading.

We can’t even begin to express the love and knowledge Dr. Blake has shown us and our Great Dane. He was having mobility issues to the point of not being able to get up. Dr. Blake was available the day we called her and has helped our boy tremendously through accupuncture and the right combination of meds. Not only did she know exactly what he needed, she took the time to get to know him too. Her in home service is stress free, beyond convenient and worth every penny. Often animals are nervous going into the clinic and in our case we couldn’t get ours into a vehicle to even get him there. He was so relaxed and content in the comfort of our own home and in her care. We will use Dr. Blake from here on out and for our other animals too. Her service, dedication and wonderful demeanor is unmatched. Thank you Dr. Blake, we don’t know what we’d do without you.

Dr. Blake has cared for our cockatiels and budgies over many years. Our birds have taken an instant liking to her on their very first visit – I think there is just something about her that they know instinctively.  She has always been extremely competent and professional; we trust her completely with our beloved birds.  We were pleased to learn that Dr. Blake now has her own practice and, she makes house calls!  Buddy (our current cockatiel) was far less stressed getting his exam, wing clip and toenail clip today at our home than he would have otherwise been with a trip to the vet’s office and a waiting room full of dogs and cats.  We were less stressed too as we don’t like exposing him to other potentially sick birds in a vet’s waiting room. We will definitely call on Dr. Blake to treat Buddy again whenever necessary and are very happy to know that she’s available.

Dr. Blake is a wonderful vet! She is very knowledgeable and always has well-informed and thoughtful answers to questions that I have had about our dogs. She was a significant comfort to us when we had to put our 13 yr old dog to sleep. I know that I can trust her with our animals and that she will treat them as if they were her own pet. Our dogs love her and never show signs of stress when going to see her.

We’ve entrusted the healthcare of our everchanging family, including cats, rabbits and guinea pigs, to Dr. Blake for over 17 years. She’s like family. She approaches the care of our little ones as if they’re her own, always making us feel special.  Dr. Blake listens to our concerns, helps us to describe what we’re seeing at home, takes time to explain the conditions to us and fully describes treatment options in a way we can understand. Dr. Blake has always been compassionate and human during all of our interactions, but especially during those times when our loved ones have needed her most, giving straightforward answers to tough questions, and openly sharing in our grief.

In discussing treatment options with us, it’s not uncommon for her to say that she just read a paper on this, or attended a conference on that, or that she consulted another professional.  And her reputation precedes her. Based on interactions we’ve had with other veterinary professionals familiar with Dr. Blake, our sense is that she is well-respected and highly-regarded in her field. And in her previous clinic it was apparent how staff and fellow doctors respected and trusted Dr. Blake for her depth of knowledge and experience. This all adds to our confidence that we’re getting the most up-to-date, well-informed care.
